County of Vaduz

The County of Vaduz was a historic state of the Holy Roman Empire, now located in the Principality of Liechtenstein. The county was created in 1342, after the subdivision of the County of Werdenberg. In 1396 it was granted imperial immediacy. In 1712 the County was sold to Hans-Adam I, Prince of Liechtenstein, and in 1719 the prince gained the right to found a single state.

Culture
- In 1684 Emperor Leopold I deprived Ferdinand Karl von Hohenems of his dominions, for undue appropriation and excessive witch-hunt.
- The castle's keep, built in the 12th century, is among its oldest parts.
- In the Swabian War of 1499 the Swiss Confederacy burned the castle.
